The Stratford Fire Brigade plain and fancy dress ball, held in the Town Hall last night, was a great success. This annual function has become popular as one of tbe best of its kind, but all previous successes were eclipsed last night. The attendance was very large, and included many visitors from a distance. Great care had been taken by the promoters in appropriate decoration, and with the quaint and variously-colored fancy costumes of the dancers, and the lighting effects, the hall presented a striking appearance. Messrs. Bert Davis and J. Brandon, as M.C.’s, were assiduous in their attention to the patrons. The music, provided by Mrs. Bianchi’s orchestra, was of tbe best and the dancing floor was in excellent order. The supper was a strong feature. The prize for th 3 best fancy dress was won by Miss Nuttafl, of Eltbam, as “Cobweb,” and Miss Sheehan, “Billiards,” secured the prize for the most original dress. The prize for the best poster dress was won by Miss Thompson, who represented “Grannie Chamberlain.” The prize-winning dresses were remarkably good, as indeed were many others. STRATFORD MARDI GRAS. Matters are so well forward at present in connection with the election of a Queen of the Mardi Gras, that it has been decided to begin the election with a big speech night next Friday,, in the King's Theatre. Particulars of this event are set out in the Mardi Gras announcement appearing in to-day’s advertising columns of the News. A new publication, called the “Mardi Gras Buzzer,” has made its appearance in Stratford. Its object is to boost the in terests of the band carnival.
