OBITUARY.

MRS. ELIZA JURV A very old resident of the New Plymouth district, Mrs. Eliza Jury, widow of the late Mr. Richard Jury, died on Thursday .night in her 87th year. Her health in recent years had been remarkably good, and right up till the day of her death she retained all her faculties. Born in Devonshire, the late Mrs. Jury came out to New Zealand with her parents (Mr. and Mrs. Richard Grylls), arriving at New Plymouth in the Amelia Thomson in 1841. She was then six years old. She married the late Mr. Richard Jury (who died in 1896) and with her husband experienced all the -difficulties of the early settlers. They first settled at Oakura, where they kept the local hostelry, and thej? were there when the Maori war broke out. Mrs. Jury, with other women was cent to Nelson, and she remained ' there during hostilities. Rejoining hei husband after the war they took up a farm in the Oakura district, subee* quently purchasing a property at Tikorangi. Some forty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Jury removed to New Plymouth, and Mrs. Jury had been a resident here up till the time of her death. The late Mrs. Jury is survived by nine children, 38 grand-children and 24 great-grandchildren. There are five sons—Messrs. W. H., F. and P. Jury (New Plymouth) and E. and J. Jury. (Auckland) —and four daughters—Mrs. J. West, Mrs. J. F. Watson, Mrs. E Lash (New Plymouth) and Mrs. J. Tong (Auckland). Another son (the late Mr. Alf Jury) and a daughter (the late Mrs. J. H. Quilliam) died some ten and seven years ago respectively.
