IS IT A SCOW?

ONLY VtESSEL IN VICINITY. Auckland. Last Night. The captain of the Northern Company’s Rimu, which arrived at Onehunga from Hokianga this morning, thinks the distress signals may come from the scow Kapua, owned by McCallum Bros., Auckland, as she is the only vessel he knows that would be in the vicinity. On the other hand the ownere have not received pre-arranged advice of the scow’s departure from Hokianga for Herekino. When the Rimu left there on Friday night the wind was northeast off the shore and the sea was calm. The Kapua carries a crew of three in addition to Captain Stevens.
