DIMENSIONS OF MOTORS.
FILLING UP THE ROADS. LARGE UNWIELDY BUSES. The question of limiting the width and length of motor vehicles was discussed the annual meeting of the New ZeaAutomobile Union at Wellington •'•last *veek. Mr. C. M. Banks, Wellington, moved: “That the Government be requested to fix a maximum of weight, length, and width of motor vehicles.” He read extracts from English papers to show how the motor-coach was squeezing the private ear off the narrow road. Instances were quoted of these large motor-coaches, carrying 30 to 40 passengers, interlocking and blocking traffic for hours, and also of cases where private cars meeting motor-coaches had to back down half-a-mile to the foot of a hill. Further, it was stated that a motor-coach plying in the Wellington district, had forced a car on the Day’s Bay road to take the beach to pass. If there were no limit coaches might be built to carry fiO passengers and nothing else could live on the road. The question was then raised as to whether it was not a matter for .local body by-laws to fix limits, according to localities. The weight had already been limited to 10 tons. The motion was carried with one dissentient.
