UNREST IN INDIA.
RIOTERS AND POLICE CLASH. TWO FACTIONS IN CONFLICT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Sept. 6, 8.5 p.m. Delhi, September 5. The situation at Amritsar is unchanged Clashes between rioters and the police continue, and large numbers have been wounded. Twenty Akalir were sentenced to heavy terms for attacking and injuring i head constable. A serious religious disturbance occurred at Teliapara, 20 miles from Calcutta, in connection with the Muharram (New Year) festival on Monday. Hindus and Mahommedans came into confict, one person being killed and 15 injured seriously, while 50 others suffered slight wounds. Twelve police were injured. There was much looting and property was destroyed before the disturbance was quelled. The police and troops now hold the district.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Amd.
