NEV * PLYMOUTH CLUB. .J'pt THE LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. ~ WON BY MISS GAVIN. The ladies' championship final in connection with the New Plymouth Golf Club was played at the Waiwakaiho links yesterday between Mias Gavin and Miss Thomson, the former winning by fi up and 4. A stiff breakwater wind troubled the finalists at. nearly every hole, making anything in the nature of n brilliant exhibition out of the question. Nevertheless both ladies played well, some pretty driving being witnessed, though the putting, on the whole, was weak. Both players drove for the fourth all square. Miss Thomson having won the first, and the second was halved, whilst Miss Gavin won the third. The fourth also went to Miss Gavin, making her 1 up, and she appeared to have the fifth well in hand, landing on the green in three, but she took three putts to hole, and the hole was halved. The wind deflected both players’ drives heading for the sixth, but both made g?od approaches to the green, and the hole was halved In six. The seventh, eighth and ninth were all won by Miss Gavin, who turned for home 4 up. The tenth was halved tn four, the eleventh going to Miss Gavin by a stroke. Miss Thomson, who landed in a bunker, took four strokes to clear the rise near the twelfth, and did not play on. Miss Gavin holed in four. With Miss Gavin fl up Miss Thomson needed to win all the remaining holes to draw level. Her second shot approaching the thirteenth was very pretty, and she reached the green with her next. Miss Gavin’s second and third were weak, though her fourth landed on the green. The hole was won by Miss Thomson by a stroke, but at the fourteenth Miss Gavin had the advantage of a longer second drive, and won the hole and the game 6 up and 4. The record of play is:— Miss Gavin: 5,7, 4,6, 6,6, 4,6, 6,5, 5, 4. 6. 4. Miss Thomson! 4,7, 5,7, 6, ‘ fl, 5,8, 8, 5, fl, (—), 5, 6. Mr. D. H. Butcher umpired. LADIES’ MEDAL MATCH. The ladies played a medal match yesterday afternoon, for a silver button. The best
MEN’S MATCHES. A trophy has been presented by the club captain for a competition open to schoolboys who are juvenile members of the club. The conditions are that a medal round will be played on Thursday afternoon, the four best scores to play off later by match play on handicap. Handicaps will be declared on the conclusion of the medal round. Intending competitors should advise the secretary as soon ns possible, and should also arrange their own scorers for Thursday’s round, preferably an adult member of the club. Next Saturday a four-ball bogey match will be played. Arrange own partners and opponents. Competitors in this unatch should start before 12.45 or after the semi-finalists in the junior championship, who must be permitted to pass any of the early starters if necessary. LADIES' INTER-CLUB MATCH. NEW PLYMOUTH v. HAWERA. The New Plymouth Club will send a team nf ladies to play the Hawera ladies at Hawera i on Fridav.
