Interviewed at Bloemfontein in regard to the reported understanding between the Labour and Nationalist Parties, Mr. Hertzog admitted that he discussed co-operation with Mr. Cresswell at the next elections with the object of turning out the Government, but lie denied that any concessions were made as to giving up the independence programme. He denied that the Nationalists ever declared that .secession was one of their principles. They insisted on the independence of the JJnion, but not necessarily as a republic. They also recognised that no such question could be decided without a referendum. MURDER Of-" BELGIANS. , Paris, Sept. 3. The German Government expressed regret at the murder of the Belgians at Ober Cassel. The police believe they have secured the assassins. - COSSACKS IN REVOLT. Tofcio, Sept. l. Confidential code dispatches from Siberia state that the trans-Baikal. Cossacks rose yesterday inaugurating the revolution predicted on August 8. The commander Representing the proposed new Government left Vladivostock for the interior ten days ago. The Cossocks rose somewhat prematurely, but the bulk of the Chita army is expected to kill the commissars and officers who join the revolutionists within a. few days. Neither Seminoff ndr other reactionary leaders were invited to,join the movement. No press dispatches regarding the Cossack revolt have reached Japan and definite news is not expected for some days, while Chita retains the control of communications. BY AIR 1O INDIA. General Branckner, Director of Civil Aviation, has arranged for the inauguration at an early date of an aeroplane service between London and Berlin, which is intended as the first step in an All British route to India, via Vienna and Constantinople.
