ERADICATING BLACKBERRY.

A MEMBER’S SUGGESTION. It was suggested to the Minister for Agriculture in the House last week by Mr. H. M. Campbell (Hawke’s Bay) that pinus insignia should be placed on certain blackberry-infested areas, as he had reason to believe that it would kill the pest. There were some areas of Government land on the east coast where an experiment might be made. The Minister observed that of course the planting of pinus insignia would involve the conversion of a good deal of country into forest land. The Government would give consideration to the suggestion. It would be prepared to pay handsomely for a cheap method of eradicating. blackberry.
