TANGATAHAERE.
AMERICAN LEGTON IN NEW ZEALAND. The Prime Minister has sanctioned the establishment of a post of the American Legion of war veterans in New Zealand, under the name of Aotearoa Tangatahaere—“men who travel to the land of the long white cloud.” “New Zealand is the land of the brave and the fair,” says the commander of the new post, in his notification to headquarters in New York. “ ‘The land of the brave’ is well merited. Remember Gallipoli. Also Passchendaele. The remnant that returned count themselves under special protection to : be able to say, Tam whole.’ New Zealand gave freely of her best; few returned. As to ‘the land of the fair, they are as numerous as in any country with predominant Anglo-Saxon ancestry. New Zealand is ninety-nine per cent. British and white. The loyalty to Great Britain is far more evident than Jin the larger sections of the Empire, on account of it* high concentration. Her cities are up and doing. Her lands are plentiful and fat. Her herds, flock*, dairies, and. mines ensure wealth untold to the future Imperial settler who wills to work. Wait a bit, Buddy, don’t start this way, for, like other countries, New Zealand has her hands full just now, caring for her own boys, and she has already been more generous than any other nation to them. “The national headquarters wanted me to go ahead and organise Australia,” he add*. “I told them to look at the nearest geography, and ponder.”
