“SOCCER” AT HOME.
OPENING OF NEW SEASON. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Aug. 27. 11.5 p.m. London, August 2G. The Association foothall season opens to-dav, with forty-three matches in four divisions of the league. Everything points to a keen and interesting campaign. A satisfactory feature is that most teams, especially in the first league, are relying on old players or developing new talent, instead of spending large sums acquiring stars from other teams, a practice that had almost become a scandal. The famous amateur club, the Corinthians, will appear in the English Cup competitions. Hitherto they have held aloof from all competitions on the ground that they were inconsistent with the amateur spirit.
