ENGLISH CRICKET.
PROGRESS OF COUNTY MATCHES. By Tel err a oh.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Aug. 27, 11.5 p.m. London, August 26. Yorkshire’s defeat of Hampshire was their most brilliant victory of the season. Primarily Yorkshire worked for a first innings lead, a win appearing impossible in the time. Hants tried five bowlers unsuccessfully in an attempt to keep down runs. When Yorkshire, thanks to Sutcliffe and Rhodes, defeated this purpose the spectators settled down for a certain draw. Then came thrills. Hants lost Tennyson, Bowell and Day for 13. and two more were gone at 30. Mead (Hampshire’s greatest hope) and Aird only added five. Kilner took the remaining three wickets rapidly. The leading percentages are: Yorkshire 72.85, Notts 70.40. Surrey 68.18.
