WAi-TOI-TOt—URENUI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The concert and dance held in Urenul last week in aid of the hall funds was a most successful function, and a varied and enjoyable programme was provided. In the absence of Mr. J. S. O'Neill (chairman of the committee), Mr. G. N. Skelton presided, and introduced the different performers. Proceedings were commenced with an opening chorus, "Partw*' (Hawaiian love song), by the company, by a song "Up in the Air, Boys,” by Mr. Isaac Moore, which was well received. Miss White, from New Plymouth, rendered "Come Sing to Me" most effectively and received a unanimous encore. A duet, "Whispering Hopes.” by Misses L. Coulter and K. Edwin, was also re-demanaed, whilst the pipe band, consisting of Pipe-Major Sinclair, PipeSergeant Sheppard, and Drum-Major Fitzgerald (late of the London SeottiAh' Regiment), gave several spirited selections, for which they were warmly applauded. The Highland Flings danced by Misses Jean Mayne (for two years champion of New Zealand) and Tui Mcßae, and also Mr. R. Mcßae, so pleased the audience that they had to be repeated. Other items were "Ohio.” N. Edwin (encored) : duet, Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Mason:. 'l’ve Lived and Loved Alone for You,” Miss Edwin (encored) ; piano solo, Miss Gibson (encored) ; song, Mr. Isaac Moore (encored) : "Cornin’ Thro’ the Rye." Miss White (encored) : duet. "Life’s Dream is O’er,” Mr. and Miss Edwin. The performance was brought to a conclusion by a chorus, "Takapuna,” in English and Maori, by the company. The various accompaniments were played by Mrs. A. Thompson. Mrs. Jackson. and Miss Edwin. All the items were good, and the committee wish to express their thanks?to the ladies and gentlemen who came such a • sowaiderable distance to make the evening so successful. For th® dance, which followed, Mr. C. Rlfeakley carried out the duties of M.C. most satisfactorily, the music being played by Mrs. Jackson in her usual good style, extras being given by Miss and Mr. Edwin. For the bean guessing competition. Miss F. Callaghan and Mr. A. C. Keay were equal with 481, the correct number beine- 483. An enjoyable supper was handed round during the evening, and accorded full justice. Taken altogether, the committee arc to be congratulated on the results of their efforts to provide an enjoyable evening’s amusement. It is proposed to hold a euchre party and dance on September 7. when good prizes will be awarded. x Th? Mimi school will close on Friday for the customary couple of week’s spring vacation. Smith, who was working on the same contract, also had the misfortune to cut his hand most .severely, necessitating his dtp'-ontinuing work. The billiard tournament held in Mr. Dunbar’s mom at TTrenui. was brought to a con®lus!on Inst week, the . winner m-oving to be Mr. J. Fitzgerald, who secures the handsome nre.aentatlon cue which constituted the prize. Considernble interest wn's evinced in the r«‘ stilt, and some very close games were plaved Messrs.
