The Sun newspaper comments on McLaren’s team, and says: "It may not be quite strong enough to defeat Victoria or New South Wales, but it Is quite good enough to defeat the New Zealanders. The tour, however. Is expected to develop some talented young players.” The Sun regrets the absence of Hubert Ashton The star of the side will be A. P. Chapman, the Cambridge left-hander. who though not regarded quite as Ashton’s equal is a prolific run-getter, and one of the finest fieldsmen in England. It is stated McLaren’s team is regarded in Cricket Association circles as more in the nature of a picnic of tourists than as a combination capable of testing the mettle of the best amateurs against real cricketers. Excepting McLaren and Calthorpe the rest are almost unknown. No details of the tour have yet been received. ENGLISH COUNTY MATCHES. London. August 21. Surrey was all out for 339. Yorkshire made 320 for three wickets (Oldroyd 83, Sutcliffe not out 161). . Gloucester, with 141 and 50 for iour wickets, beat Essex, 79 and 110. Parker took four wickets for 32 runs.
