GENERAL ELECTION DAY.
EARLY POLL WANTED. The drapery, establishments of the Dominion are anxious that if it be at all possible the date of polling day for the general election this year should <be fixed toward the end of November, and thus leave December clear to deal with the Christmas trade. Representations on the matter were made to the Prime Minister when he was last in Christchurch by Mr. E. H. Wyles, president of the New Zealand Federation of Drapers and Clothiers. Mr. Massey’s reply was to the effect that ho fujly appreciated the desirability of trade during the Christmas period being interfered with as little as possible. Of course, he could not make any promise, and he had doubts as to whether it would be practicable to fix the polling day earlier than some date in December. However, he undertook to take into consideration the representation made by Mr. Wyles when the time arrived to fix the actual date of polling day.
