FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
THE TARANAKI BRANCH. The annual meeting 1 of the Taranaki United Friendly Societies was held in Stratford on Thursday, when there was a fair attendance of delegates, representing over 2400 menfbers. The president (Mr. G. S. Sage), Hawera, presided. The balance-sheet was adopted, showing a sum of £2300 paid to hospitals, a resume of which has already appeared in the News It was decided to continue the £3O limit in any one year as in the past; also, that all members who have not paid the 6s levied in 1920 be deemed unfinancial until paid. A discussion took place on the number nf children admitted to the public hospitals and the reasons why. Out of a tots’ of 132. no less than 123 were in New Plymouth, leaving only nine for all the other hospitals. Any lodge bolding members’ contributions may make the member unflnancial. and the Lodge would be legally responsible for payment of fees to the hospital. Officers for the ensuing year were elected unanimously as follows: President. Mr. G. S. Sage (Hawera). Vice-president, Mr. A. E. Coleman (New Plymouth). Executive Committee: Messrs. C D. Sole (Stratford), W. S. Gilbert (New Plymouth), and F.. Allen (Inglewood). Mr R. Pepperill. of New Plymouth. wa« re-elected auditor, arid Mr. R., H. Cattley, secretary and treasurer
