Orders for papers may also be left with him. PEACE SCOUTS’ CONCERT. August 12. A mwt successful concert was held in the Parish Hall last night by the Stratford troupe of Girl Peace Scouts. The Rev. C. W. Howard was in the chair and Seoutmistreds Murray, with her troupe of girls and Scoutmaster W. H. Humphrey, with the Boy Scouts, were pre'sent. Mr. Howard said Scoutmistress Murray was to be congratulated on the success of the Stratford troupe of Peace Scouts. Its success was largely due to the energy she had devoted to it. The number of girls present was striking testimony of what could be done by organisation and service. Scoutmaster Humphrey also congratulated Scoutmistress Murray on her achievements and spoke of work done by the scouts. To cover the many expenses connected with the movement he asked for financial assistance. He said it was pleasing to be associated with a movement which did so much good for the boys and girls. Mr. Humphrey was promised six weeks’ rent of the scouts’ hall.
A very creditable programme of musical and other items was given. Mrs. Dick assisting Miss Murray in the arrangement of tire concert and playing the accompaniments. Following the grand march toy the troupe the following programme was given: Song. Patty Childs; recitation. ‘ Lady Clare,” Amy Rowson; club swinging, Mrs. Lowry; song and chorus, “Grace Darling.”* by the troupe; song, ‘Lazy,” Rita Clark: dance, Joan MeCl uggage and Patty Childs; Song; Pearl Geard; flute solo. Mr. Dick; song. “Don’t You Remember the Time,” Edna Murray; song and chorus, “How Would You Like to be a Raby Girl?*’ the troupe: song “The Village Blacksmith,” Mr. P. Aitken; comic song. Mr. J. Cmn; dance. Moria Grubb; drums. Mr. B. Vinsen; dialogue, Messrs. Vinsen and Cran: duet. “The Cripple,” Agnes Dick and Edna Murray; recitation, “Visitors’ Day at the Camp,” Eliza Close; song. “Little Pigs.” Agnes Dick; scena, “A Girl Scout Camp,” by the troupe.
TOKO ROAD AFFAIRS. The last of a series of eight euchre tournaments was held in the Toko Road Hall on Wednesday night, when the points prizes were given out. Mrs. L. Gooch won the ladies’ prize and Mr. A. Mar-fell the men’s. The ladies’ prize was a beautiful hand-made mat. donated by Mr. E. Baker, and the men’s an oak eight-day clock. Last night the Huinga bachelors’ ball was held and its success was described
’by of the oldest settlers as being the greatest of any such functions yet held. The committee is deserving of praise for the arrangements made and for the beautiful decoration of the hall with ferns, greenery, streamers and Japanese lanterns. The M.C.'s were Messrs. F. Kutz and L. Leyden, and the supper, under the management of Mr. E. Baker, was of a high standard. Sweets and refreshments were provided during the evening. About 45 couples participated in the dancing, and the whole function was of an order that will bo difficult to surpass when the ladies of the district give their return ball.
