London, August 10. Several sensational bowl’.ng feats were effected on the rain-damaged wickets. Gloucestershire dismissed Yorkshire for 66 runs, Parker celebrating his benefit match by taking nine wickets for 36 runs, including the hat trick. Leicester dismissed Glamorgan for 51, Ast.ll taking five wickets for 23, three in four balls. Cook, for Lancashire, took three Hampshire wickets in one over. London, August 9. Kent dismissed Middlesex for 124. Woolley took seven wickets for 34 runs. OLDFIELD’S OPINION. ENGLAND KEEN. Sydney, August 12. In Melbourne, the cr.cketer Oldfield, who has returned from England, declared that England is taking cricket seriously, and, in order to retain the ashes in the next test matches, Australia will have to put as strong a team in the field as that captained by Armstrong. The county clubs are searching the land for promising material and treating the pitches so that practise can be carried on practically throughout the year. Regarding McDonald, he declared that, without the support of Australian’ fieldsmen, he was convinced that he could not attain on English wickets the standard of excellence won in Australia.
