HUNTING.

GATHERING AT WAIHI. POINT-TO-POINT MEETING, That great interest is taken in North Taranaki in the friendly contest of local horses and horsemen was amply demonstrated by the presence of about 200 people at the annual point-to-point meeting of the North Taranaki Hunt Club, held over the adjoining properties of Messrs. J. Cole and J. Edwin, at Waihi, yesterday afternoon. Owing to the unavoidable absence of Mr. L. A. Nolan, the position iu judge was ably filled by Mr. A. Alexander. As starter. Mr. J. Edwin got his three fields away in good order. Mr. G. N. Skelton gave every satisfaction as clerk of the course, while the secretary (Mr. E. L. Humphries) and other members of the club rendered willing assistance. The course, about two and a quarter miles, -extended round a low hill, then circled a flat and finished with a straight run of about 400 yards. In all 11 obstacles had to be negotiated, including four leaps over brush. The three events ,were well contested, and although the entries were small some exciting finishes were witnessed.
