BOXING.
SATURDAY NIGHT’S TOURNAMENT. WHITAKER v. POOLEY. Interest throughout Taranaki, and, indeed, throughout the Dominion, will centre in i ew Plymouth to-morrow night, when the TaranaKt Boxing Association is staging the greates professional contest that has ever been put.on in New Plymouth. The contestants—Whitaker, of Wellington, and Pooley, of Auckland are two of the best known professional heavyweights in the Dominion, and there is considerable discussion among enthusiasts as to which is the better, each man having numerous admirers To-morrow evening will, however. settle the question, .but it is eer.atn the decision will not be avived at without a strenuous and stirring struggle for supremacy on the part of the contestants, both of whom are trained and very fit. While naturally the professional bout is the piece de resistance, the preliminaries, in which leading Taranaki amateurs are matched, will afford much excitement. as the match committee has endeavored to match the best available onen in each class. Mr. F. Burns, of Auckland, will referee.
