AN ATTEMPTED COUP. NIPPED IN THE BUD. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrigtit. London, August 7. A Dublin official message states that * the Irregulars attempted a coup in Dublin city and county on Saturday. Numbers came from * Cork, travelling via Liverpool, their objective being to isolate the city by destroying bridges, railways and other means of communication. The entire plan was frustrated and 180 were taken prisoner. A large quantity of arms and ammunition was captured. The National troops have captured Rstakeale. Broadford. Askeaton and Ballingarry after stiff engagements. [These towns are in Limerick county.] The situation in Cork under the Irregulars is depicted in a message received in Dublin. It says that business is at a standstill. The Irregulars are in possession of all the public services, including the posts and telegraphs. Customs, inland revenue, and income tax. from which it is estimated they have collected £ 100.000. Demand notes for income tax were issued on August 1 from Cork in the name of the Republican Civil Administration Department. peremptorily demanding payment within three days. A joint meeting ot the Cork Chamber of Commerce and the Employers’ Federation resolved that if anyone was victimised for not complying with the demand, all other finns will sympathetically close and discharge all their employees. ULSTER CENSORSHIP WANTED. Received Aug. 8, 5.5 pm. London. August 7. The Free State Government has protested against the reports of the fighting published in the Belfast newspapers, and has requested Mr. Churchill to establish a cengoaitip on all Ulster newspapers.
