CORRESPONDENCE.
THE BAND.
(To the Editor.) Sir. —Y’our correspondent, "Bugler,” has evidently only hazy motives of the work of the band, as he says: "The drum-major is.: responsible for the present efficiency of The band.” This is entirely due to the conductor (Mr. Lowe), as the drum-major has nothing to do with the musical part of the band’s work, and, again, the drum-major Is an enrolled member of the band, and duly registered as such under the North Island Brass Band Association, and has exactly the saime privileges as any other member, and the thanks recorded at the annual meeting included the drum-major as well as the other members of the band. Our worthy drum-major, whom we all greatly esteem, knows full well that we appreciate the work he does in training the band in its military work. —I am, etc., FRED. A. COLEMAN.
