BETTER BUSINESS.
“A VERY GOOD SEASON.” POSITION TN CHRISTCHURCH. ‘ The only cry of distress at present is over employment, but, as far as business generally is concerned, there is nothing much to complain about,” said Mr. S. A. Orchard, president of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. “To speak the truth it Ims been a very good season." he said. “Look at it more from the point of view of the wholesalers. The retailers have not been importing so much of late and the wholesale houses, which carried good stocks, have derived considerable benefit. Such houses are now in the happy position of being able to order as in normal times. “As far as our clients are concerned. we find the great majority are meeting payments all right, which is a sure indication that the financial aspect has considerably improved. As far as country accounts are concerned, we are having very little trouble; no more difficulty in collecting them than in normal times. There are, of course, some classes of business at present which have worries on their shoulders, hut generally things are on the mencU and it is only a. matter of time when everyone in business will be wearing a cheerful face again.” 1
