WAITARA-TARANAKI DAIRY COMPANY. In presenting their annual report the Wai-tara-Taranaki Co-operative Dairy Company Ltd., state :—■ The period covered by the figures has been one of the most trying in the history of the > co-mpany, as fluctuations in value of butter J have been very frequent and very pronounced. I The advances made against shipments of but- | ter have mostly varied from 9%d per lb to Is Id per lb, the fall from the prices ruling last winter having been very rapid and heavy, * resulting in serious deficits having to be met j on the earlier Shipments against which higher advances had been made. Latterly the market has again materially advanced, and whilst the books have been closed on a. reasonable valuation op the unsold butter, it is probable that an increase on this value will be realThe payments for unilk have varied in accordance with prices realised for butter, and as your directors consider that the milk for the months June-November, inclusive, has been fully paid for, they have decided to apply the undivided balance of profit and loss account in making a further payment, of 3d per lb on butter-fat supplied during the mohths December to May inclusive, which will absorb £4,9&6 3s 9d,. and leave a present balance of £2l 14s 8d to be carried forward or otherwise dealt with. During the year casein prospects varied very considerably, but in-order to meet the wishes of suppliers who so desired, their skim milk was (made into casein. No advance was made against this milk, but a payment of 4d per 100 lb milk has been made since the books were closed, and any further payment received will also be paid to casein suppliers. The previous year’s casein account has hot yet been settled, but payment by, October of this year is guaranteed. Casein prospects are advised as improving, and your directors hope that its manufacture will be carried on next season at both Brixton and Hutrangi, so that suppliers tmay get all that is possible out of their milk. The increased supply has necessitated enlargement of the receiving stage and separating room portion of the main factory, which is well in hand, and should be completed in ample time for the new season, otherwise i your buildings and plant are adequate and in | good order.
