ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A FATAL COLLISION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Foxton, July 17. An inquest was opened this afternoon touching the death of William Bertram Spelman, who met his death as the result of a collision with a dray while riding a motor-bicycle on Saturday evening. It was adjourned until Monday next, at the request of the police. MAN FOUND DEAD. Dunedin, July 17. Denis Gavin, a resident of Kaitangata, aged 40, was found with his head blown off with explosives. BABY FOUND DEAD. Dunedin, July 17. The remains of an apparently fully-de-veloped female child were found to-day in some trees off Park Street. A superficial examination made by a medical man failed to disclose definitely whether the child had breathed, and a post-mortem will be held. MAN FOUND DROWNED. Auckland, July 17. The body of George Maitland, a laborer single, aged 47, who had been missing from Waimarie since July 1, was found in a river.
