ROTORUA-TAUPO COMMISSION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 18. Mr. E. E. Vaile addressed the Rotorua and Taupo Railway Commission to-day. He said the railway would make timber areas available, and assist materially in the development of the district. The commission finished taking evidence and will now consider its report.
PAKAPOO APPEAL DISMISSED. Wellington, July 18. Judgment was delivered to-day by Mr. Justice Hosking in the case Ah Lyn and others against Thomas Edward Holmes, an appeal against the decision of the Magistrate on a charge of having been found witliout lawful excuse in a common gaming house. His Honor held that the evidence of the detectives constituted legal evidence that the documents called pakapoo tickets were such and that there was sufficient prima facie evidence before the Magistrate t-o justify him in convicting in this case. The appeal was dismissed. A CHARGE OF THEFT. Auckland, July 17. At the Police Court, to-day, George Mack, who pleaded not guilty and reserved his defence, was committed for trial on a charge of breaking and entering the premises of Kershaw, Ltd., Pitt Street, and stealing tobacco and cigarettes valued at £lO.
