TEACHERS’ SALARIES.
AMOUNT OF SECOND CUT. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Wellington, July 17. The Education Department has issued a circular to education boards outlining the deduction to be made in teachers’ salaries as follows: —Training college students’ pupil teachers and probationers £2 deductions; male principals of secondary and technical schools receiving £550 a year and over, £10: less than that amount, and female principals. £5; all other secondary school teachers. £5; all other education employees receiving £l9O and under £5; upto £BOO a year, £lO. These deductions only apply to teachers employed for 20 hours weekly. The department has also issued a circular to education boards outlining proposals for new buildings. If the boards raise half the money by subscription for new works approved by the department, the latter will contribute half the cost. If the boards borrow money by loan at 5| per cent, the department will contribute an equivalent amount.
