Mr. R. Masters, M.P. for Stratford, returned to Wellington iby the mail train yesterday morning. A Manila cablegram reports that Admiral Dumaresq has been unconscious for three days. Dr. lan Maclntyre, who has been awarded that tuberculous disease diploma by the 'Cardiff University, was born and educated at Christchurch. The diploma is the first of ite kind ever given for tuberculous research. Mr. Thomas Brook, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Invercargill, has been appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands, Wellington, in succession to Mr. McClure, who has retired on superannuation. Mr. R. S/ Galbraith, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Westland, will succeed Mr. T. Brook at Invercargill.
Dunedin reports the death of Mr. Gabriel Hodges, aged 72, a builder and contractor. He served on a large number of public bodies and was Mayor of the South Dunedin Borough Council and St. Kilda Borough Council. He was president of the Forbury Park Trotting Club from 1914 to the time of his death.
The Rev. Dr. C. H. Laws, president of the conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, is to visit Taranaki this week in his official capacity. He arrives in New Plymouth at the end of the week and will be tendered a reception in Whiteley Hall on Saturday evening. On Sunday he preaches at Waitara in the 'morning, and occupies the pulpit at Whiteley Memorial Church in the evening. On Monday he will meet the members of the North Taranaki Methodist Ministers’ Association in a retreat, and at night a public rally of Methodists throughout the town and surrounding districts will be held in Whiteley Church, at which Dr. Laws will be the principal speaker.
