In the House of Representatives the Treasurer, in the course of a financial statement, eaid the expenditure for 1921-22 totalled £65.118,265, and receipts amounted to £64,913,085, leaving a deficit of £205,180. The estimated surplus for 1920-1921 was £6,618,327. At the close of this financial year it was found that practically the whole of that surplus remained in the Treasury. Therefore, the accumulated surplus was now £6,413,147. Mr. Charlton intends to move a motion of censure on the Government in the form of an amendment to the Ad-dress-in-Reply. urging more liberal oldage and invalid pensions.
