LABOR IN POLITICS.
WILL THEY JOIN LIBERALS? PROPOSAL FOR CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The sixth annual conference of the New Zealand Labor Party opened today, 90 delegates from all parts of the Dominion being present. Mr. Cooke (Christchurch) is presiding. The day was spent in discussing the executive’s report dealing with the party’s activities during the year. The most important remits to be discussed urge that the party should make some agreement with the Liberal party for the purpose of avoiding vote splitting at the forthcoming elections. The report stated that the membership was upwards of 25,000, showing a considerable increase, despite the trade depression and unemployment. Some of the larger organisations had not yet affiliated, but worked in close co-opera-tion and harmony with the partyA resolution was carried congratulating the Irish Labor Party on their great success at the elections of the Irish Free State.
