“BROADCASTING” IN NEW ZEALAND. DAILY NEWS BULLETINS. WEATHER AND MARKET REPORTS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An interesting proposal aiming at' the broadcasting of news by wireless in New Zealand was mentioned in the House this afternoon. Mr. Wilford (Leader of the Opposition) asked the Postmaster-General whether, in order to assist farmers throughout New Zealand to obtain daily market and weather reports by wireless telephone, he did not think th® time had arrived for the Government to authorise the erection and installation of radio broadcasting stations by Government departments, chambers of commerce, and approved commercial concerns, such authority to contain such safeguards as are necessary to prevent interference with a commercial wave length of 600 metres and provide a standard wave length of 360 metres for such broadcasting stations so authorised in order to prevent jamming with ship and shore communications, and whether in approved cases amateur transmission should be allowed on a wave length not exceeding 200 metres. The Hon. J. G. Coates said, in reply, that the Government proposed to permit broadcasting as suggested in the question. It was merely a question of framing regulations. He proposed shortly to ynake a statement on the subject, when he would explain th® details of the Government’s policy.
