A CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. TWO YOUNG MEN GUILTY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. At the Supreme Court, Albert Hector ‘'Charles and Sydney Hirst Forbes were charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a young woman named Miss McCarthy. Miss McCarthy and a girl friend were walking along the road, wheeling bicycles, when a motor-car, allegedly driven by Charles, collided with Miss McCarthy, who subsequently died from her injuries. The car wAs in charge of Forbes, though Charles was driving at the time. Accused had two girls in the car. The jury, after a retirement of four hours and a quarter, returned a verdict of guilty against both accused, adding a rider the effect that “on account of the youth of the accused, their previous good conduct and their mental stress, the jury recommends the utmost leniency.” Sentence was deferred till Thursday.
