DISCOVERY OF GOLD,
the taumarunui find. SATISFACTORY TEST MADE. "A DEFINITE REEF." By Telegraph.—Press Association. Taumarunui, Last Night. The gold discovery prospector, showed a press representative specimen. of quartz which they claim is highly productive of gold, silver and lead. One prospector ha-s just returned from the School of Mines at Thames, where the stone has been tested with satisfactory results, the assay proving it to be good, payable rock including the three met-* als stated. The prospectors are giving no inform* ation as to the locality, except that it is near Taumarunui and easily acccss-i i’ble. Questioned how they made the find, the prospectors stated that gold in small quantities had been found there for 30 years back by Maoris, surveyors and prospectors. The specimens had been found in creeks, and the prospectors concluded there must be a reef at hand. .They spent weeks at intervals in the bush and ou the hills, and made the discovery of a definite reef on May 6.
