LEAGUE OF NATIONS.
INTEREST IN NEW ZEALAND. LEAD TO OTHER DOMINIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. Professor Pringle, convener of the recent League of Nations’ Conference in Wellington, to-day received the following letter from Lord Robert Cecil, chairman of the executive committee of the League of Nations’ Union: “It is ■with the most profound satisfaction that I hear of the • imminent formation of a League of Nations’ Uni»on for the Dominion of New Zealand. The news has been received here with the greatest satisfaction, for the formation of such a union will go far towards the furtherance of the mission of the League, and should bring the Dominions into closer co-operation with one another and also with the Mother Country. Canada, Australia and South Africa have formed League of Nations Unions, but have not yet, > we believe, taken steps towards the calling of such a conference of all the branches as is projected at Wellington. The action taken by New Zealand should therefore held to stimulate League activity in the other Dominions and encourage them to act on the same lines.
“The League’s greatest mission is that of peace, and it is a significant fact that a country so far removed from the actual sphere of the battlefields should so prominently lead the way as an advocate. Allow me to offer my heartiest congratulations to you aqd -your colleagues on your tireless and splendid efforts in this great work for the League, on the opening of the numerous branches and the calling of the conference. I wish the conference at Wellington every success, and trust that the issue will be the formation of a League of Nations’ Union for New Zealand.”
