A BOY’S DEATH.

KILLED BY A MOTOR-CAR. THE DRIVER BLAMED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. An inquest was held to-day concerning the death of Andrew Peter Russell Green, aged 12, who was killed on May 22 through being struck by a motor just after alighting from a tramcar in Manukau Road. The evidence showed that the boy got off the tram and ran across the road without looking to see if there was any traffic. Some witnesses estimated that the motor was going at 20 miles an hour, one saying 25. The driver of the motor, Douglas Creer Dent, who will be 21 next month, said the engine was out of order and could not go more than 15 miles an hour. He sounded the horn as he was approaching the tram, which was going six or eight miles an hour. The Coroner said the case was not as bad as some, as the driver had something in his favor, as the boy should have looked out for approaching traffic; but still he had been negligent. The verdict was that deceased met his death from injuries received through being struck by the motor, and Dent was to blame through not keeping a proper look-out and driving too fast when passing a tramcar that had stopped or was slowing down at a stopping-place.
