LOCAL EDUCATION.
NO ABOLITION OF BOARDS TIME NOT OPPORTUNE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Interviewed with regard to the fears expressed by Auckland. Education Board that he intended to abolish Education Boards throughout the Domi* nion on the ground of economy, the Minister for Education . (Hon. C. J, Parr) said that, so far as he was concerned, he knew nothing of such an intention. “The position in regard to local educational government,” he added “stands just where it did before. Nothing fresh has happened, and I know nothing whatever about newspaper articles, which are alleged to have been inspired. The Auckland Board seems to be rather afraid df its own shadow.” Asked whether there would be an/ legislation on the subject during tho coming session, the Minister said: “I think it extremely improbable. I have never concealed my impression to an overhaul of educational machinery in regard to local government. It will some time be necessary, but the present is certainly not the time for it.”
