Captain Amundsen’s ship Maud has sailed from Nome, Alaska, on the first leg of the seven year journey in the Arctic. She is carrying two airplanes and a large stock of building lumber. When the vessel is frozen in the ice the party will build a house for greater comfort and security. Captain Amundsen expects to study important scientific questions relating to the North. He joins the ship in Alaska. The Maud will be in wiretees communication with Stavanger during the whole trip.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Amu.
