EDUCATION AT WESTPORT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. The Hon. C. J. Parr, while en route to Westport to officially open the Westport Technical High School, was met at Mangahua Junction by members of the Bullei- Progress League and shown through the coal mine in the Buller Gorge. Gn arrival here the Minister visited the school, and later, in the presence of a large gathering of citizens and school children, officially opened the Technical High School, costing, with equipment, approximately £19.000. The Minister delivered an address on education and expressed the hope that good results would come from the school. Tomorrow the Minister makes a tour of the schools in the mining townships. BLENHEIM WATER SCHEME. Blenheiip, Last Night. A poll of ratepayers on a proposal to borrow an additional £22,000 for a water scheme was carried by 035 to 103. The original loan was £65,000. The council has already spent over £70,000. BOY SCOUTS’ CONFERENCE. Christchurch, May 31. At the conference of the Dominion Council of the Boy Scouts’ Association, it was decided that the resolution passed at the last annual meeting regarding the free issue of test and certain proficiency badges be rescinded, and that after July 1 next all such badges and other badges, medals and cords, except several specified in the resolution, be paid for by those who earned them, or as may be decided by the troop committees. It was stated there had been a heavy loss on badges under the existing system. It was decided to allocate a number of the badges to each centre.
