HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIAL
TENDER FOR WORK ACCEPTED. As a memorial to the old boys of the New Plymouth High School who were killed in the European War the Old Roys’ Association recently decided to erect a memorial arch at the entrance to the school, on which the roll of honor will be placed. A handsome design was drawn by Mr. T. TL Bates and the tender of Messr Boon Bros, has been accepted, the work to be put in hand at once and to be completed in four months. The arch will be constructed in reinforced concrete, finished in white atlas cement, and the design will be in keeping with the architecture of the school _ buildings. At the top of the arch the * school shield will be fixed, and there will also be an appropriate inscription, while the names of the fallen will be iecorded on cast bronze. The arch will face Avenue Road, and two quadrants swinging in to the entrance will give a space of 58 feet. On the ends of the quadrants an electric light will be fixed in a standard. The height of the archway is 25 feet, and its simple design is one which will make a very suitable memorial.
