Forward the team looks a good one, and the backs should also be able to give a good account of themselves. THE ASSOCIATION GAME. AUSTRALIA v. WANGANUI. This match proved a fast and interesting one, and was much enjoyed by the 2500 spectators present. The Australian team were much- lighter than their opponents and put on a very good exhibition of “Soccer” in spite of the fact that they had not met together before. The skill with which they kept control of the ball with both head and feet was excellent. In fact, if it had not been for one old English player who vtas playing a very safe game for Wanganui at centre half, the score would have been doubled easily. They had hard luck in losing their centre forward during the second half. He got knocked out rather roughly by a Wanganui back, and the manager said afterwards that the doctor said it was probable that he would not be able to play for the rest of the tour. The cold weather is affecting the Australians somewhat, but no doubt when they get more used to it and have learned each other’s play a little more they will put up a tough fight for the ■ ashes,” even if they do not take them back, which is not unlikely. They have no special star players, but are a good, well-balanced crowd, and none of them are to be despised or taken lightly.
