KEEPING THE SABBATH.

RELIGION OR HOLIDAY SPIRIT? DAY’S TRUE MEANING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 28, 11.15 p.m. Melbourne, May 28. Summing up his attitude towards games and the general holiday spirit which are said to be encroaching on the proper religious observance of the Sabbath, the Rev. F. H. Paton, the recently-elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, said there were two main aspects to be considered in regard to the general observance of Sunday. Firstly, Sunday was made for man, not man for Sunday; and secondly, Christ ordained the day of rest that man might have time to consider spiritual realities, and he must always bear in mind the purpose for which it was instituted. He favored Sunday bands so long as they selected approved programmes. He was strongly against the introduction of Sunday morning trains. He also favored brighter church services.—Aus.-N.Z.
