MAKING SPIRITS.

TRADE IN ILLICIT STILLS. FINE AND IMPRISONMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Murchison, Last Night. At the Court to-day, before Mr. T. E. Maunsell, S.M., on the information of Frank Oxford, collector of customs at Greymouth, Thomas Henry Bagust was charged with having in_ his possession a still suited for the distilling of spirits. Leonard Thomason and Charles Henry Lord, alias Harry Lloyd, both of Gowan Valley, were also charged with\ having I in their possession a still suitable for distilling spirits, and that they did knowingly supply an unlicensed still to Henry Bagust. The evidence disclosed that Bagust had bought certain tools, etc., from Thomason and Lord, which included plant. The plant had been over-carried to Murchison, and came under the notice of the local constable. Inquiries subsequently traced the plant to Lord and Thomason, who, however, had then left their section. Bagust pleaded guilty, and was fined £5O, but Lord and Thomason pleaded not guilty. Thomason was sentenced to nine months, and Lord, who the Magistrate said was the ring-leader, to fifteen months.
