SOUTHERN MARKETS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Fowl wheat is moving slowly, and sales have been made at 4s to 4s 3d, d.f.0.b., sacks extra. Oats are practically without inquiry. There was a report of an export outlet to England, but so far there is no margin. Local value for A’s is nominally 3s Id f.0.b., and home quotations scarcely come within this figure. At country stations, A’s are nominally worth 2s 5d to 2s 6d, and B’s 2s to 2s 3d. Cowgrass is being offered to a very small extent, unusual circumstance at this time of the year. In some districts farmers are covering up their stocks to the spring sooner than accept the price offered, their view being that with the probability of a heavy sowing values will firm. The maximum of offers at present is lOd, which covers good to indifferent. Some business has taken place with the south for August delivery. Peas have passed as high as up to 8s 7d on trucks for partridge. Cocksfoot is meeting quiet business at 5Jd to 6d to farmers. Both the perennial and Italian ryegrass markets are firm and good; 26 to 27 lb perennial machinedressed has passed at up to 4s 9d, equal to 3s 6d to 3s 8d to farmers. Well-marked Italian has been traded at ss, machinedressed, equivalent to 3s 9d to 3s lid to farmers. This business is for August delivery. Linseed has experienced a belated improvement, and is now firm at £l4 10s to fanners, at which figure small business has been done. Farmers, however, are not offering freely at the price. The potato market is very depressed. Over-buyers have been quitting on the already stagnant market, the figure being less than a 75s f.o.b. basis, about 55s to farmers. The delay of shipments north has eased down to something like nominal. Onions are about done. To growers they are worth £6 5s for sound-condi-tioned.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 24th instant: Tallow.—We quote present spot values for the following descriptions: Fine mutton, 41s per cwt.; good beef, 38s per cwt.; mixed, 33s per cwt.; market quiet. New Zealand Frozen Meat.—Lamb lid per lb; wether and maiden ewe mutton, light 73d per lb, heavy 6fd per lb; ewe mutton, light 6d per lb, heavy 5Jd per lbmarket weak.
