Mr. Ley promised a deputation representing builders and real estate agents that the Government would either a if -nd or recast the Fair Rents Act at an early date, to remove irksome building difficulties without interfering with the tenants’ right of protection against avaricious landlords. MENACE OF WILD DOGS. Sydney, May 26. It is reported from Broken Hill that an influx of wild dogs is assuming alarming proportions, making it impossible for leaseholders to persevere successfully with sheep growing. A West Darling deputation of pastoralists is visiting Sydney to seek relief. THE SHEARERS’ STRIKE. Sydney, May 26. It is announced that the Pastoralists’ and Graziers’ Associations will probably take legal proceedings against the Australian Workers’ Union for advising a strike in the shearing industry. The penalty under the Commonwealth Act is £ 1000. RATS AND MICE. Sydney, May 26. Over 400,000 rats and mice have been ■ destroyed in the metropolis since tne plague broke out in August. Of these j 186°were infected with plague.
