LADIES’ TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. FIRST DAY’S RESULTS. Itieal golfing weather favored the opening of the second ladies’ Taranaki championship and handicap tournament at Walwakaiho links. New Plymouth, yesterday. The greens were Keen, and players expressed themselves as well pleased with the arrangements made by the ladies’ committee. The players were despatched by Mr. H. .Dempsey, and the secretarial duties were well carried out by Miss Simpson. In the morning the qualifying round for the championship was played. Miss Brandon, one of the Dominion's leading players, and an ex-lady champion of New Zealand, headed the list with a well-played 90. Mrs. Guy Williams, several times winner of the ladies* Do- . minion championship and winner last year of the Australasian championship, was next with a card of f)2. A medal handicap was also played in conjunction with the championship. Miss Brandon, with a handicap of 7, returning the best card. In the afternoon championship play was continued, as a result of which both Miss Brandon and Mrs. Williams are still left In the semi-finals. A bogey match was also ployed.
