TENNIS ON SUNDAY.
CHARGE AGAINST URUTI CDUB. “An Outsider’’ writes from Urenui: — “As an outsider, I view with strong aistavour the attitude of the Uruti Tennis Club in allowing its members to play tennis on Sundays, during church hours. The tennis-courts are situated behind the Uruti Public Hall, on property leased from the hall committee. When the hall committee leased the ground to the tennis club they understood that tennis would not be played during church hours, but this understanding was most flagrantly broken on Sunday, April 23, when the “religious” tennis-players played off the final for the men’s silver cup. Last Sunday, the 30th inst., tennis was played during Holy Communion. “When tennis is put before religion, it is time a few of the saner-minded people of Uruti put their spoke in. Not only is tennis played during church, but also during Sunday-aehool. This is putting a bad example before the children, as only a thin partition separates the courts from the interior of the hall.”
