A London cablegram reports the death of Sir Henry Davy, a distin- : guished physician. The many friends of Mr. J. Henderson will regret to learn of his death, which took place in Wellington yesterday morning. Mr. W. T. White, of the Auckland staff of the Bank of Australasia, has been appointed manager of the Waverley branch of that bank.

Mr. F. B. Glasgow, manager of tne Union Bank of Australia at Rangitora, who met with a serious accident on Sunday, still lies in a very critical state.

A Sydney cable reports the death of Mr. John Perry, a member of the Legislative Council, and formerly chief secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Education.

Dr. L. B. Stringer, a son of Mr. Justice Stringer, at present house surgeon at Timaru Hospital, has been appointed medical officer to the combined friendly societies of Eltham, vice Dr. McKay. Mr. F. E. Wilson (Mayor of New Plymouth), who was called to Wellington suddenly on account of the death of his father, has returned to New Plymouth. Major F. W. Sandford, who has been in the South Island for some months past, arrived in New Plymouth by the mail train last night. He expects to remain here for about ten days at the present time. At the station he was accorded an enthusiastic welcome by the Boy Scouts. Mr. F. Brodie, who has been on the staff of the Hawera branch of the Bank of New South Wales for some years, has received notice of his transfer to be manager of the Hokitika branch. Mr. Brodie will be leaving shortly for his new location.

At Hawera last night the Mayor (Mr. E. Dixon, M.P.), was presented with a diploma conferred by the British Sunday School Union in recognition of his 27 years of continuous service as Sunday School teacher and superintendent.

The election to fill two vacancies on the Public Service Board resulted in the election of Mr. H. C. Hulme (Lairds and Survey. Office), and Mr. Wm. Andrews (Valuation Department, Invercargill). They received 2604 and 24W1 votes respectively. —Press Assn.
