THE PRICE OF COAL.

NO REDUCTION LOCALLY. Referring to the Wellington report concerning the reduction of 2s 6d per ton in the price of Westport coal, a New Plymouth dealer stated yesterday that no advice had been received locally concerning any fall in price. He pointed out further that household coal was not affected, as the Westport article was practically a steam coal. He remarked that the price of Westport coal had been reduced 5s per ton at the end of last year in New Plymouth, and even if the reported reduction was taken into account, it was still cheaper than in Wellington, considering the landed costs at the respective places.
