LOW MORAL TONE.

CONDITIONS IN NEW ZEALAND. MAGISTRATE’S COMMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The dangerous level of the moral tone of the community was referred to by Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., who addressed the Synod on behalf of tne Young Citizens’ League. Mr. Cutten traced the work of both the civil and criminal courts, which dealt with many cases of dishonesty and those showing impurity of life. He said the condition of the community showed a terrible state of inefficiency from the material viewpoint, and a very terrible state of affairs from the spiritual aspect. The Primate, replying, said no subject gave the Church more anxiety than the present condition of the Dominion. They were very thankful for any institution such as the Young Citizens’ League, which recognised these conditions and tried to improve them. He was at one with the deputation in desiring to bring a better tone into social life through the medium of children, and people working for those ends had the support of every member of the Synod.
