The Rev. W. Greig, of Wanganui, chairman of the Taranaki-Wanganui district of the Methodist Church, was in New Plymouth yesterday, having motored round the mountain from the south. He proceeded to Waitara to fulfil an engagement in connection with the opening of a new Sunday school hall there last night.
Much regret will be felt at the announcement of the death of Mr. Edgar Jago, of Waitotara, at the early age of 33 years. He was of a quiet disposition and very popular in Wanganui and the Waitotara district, where he was well known. His untimely demise can be attributed to his war experiences. He was a member of the Rifle Brigade and was shell-shocked, wounded and gassed in the second Somme battle in 1918.
Mr. G. Goldsworthy, who leaves New Plymouth on the 16th instant, for Victoria, where he intends to settle, was the guest of the R&hui Road settlers at a social on Monday evening. There was a large attendance, and during the proceedings Mr. Anniss presented the guest with a gold-mounted leather baieco pouch, sttiiAibly inscribed, from his friends in the district, stating they had all appreciated the dealings they had had with Mr. Goldsworthy in the course of his business relations with them. Mr. Goldsworthy suitably replied, thanking those present for the gift, which would always 'be a reminder to him of the many friends he had made in that district.
It is unofficially reported, says a Wellington message, that Mr. Fraser, of Hawke’s Bay. formerly in charge of the Stock Department at Nelson Bros.’ Toraoana works, has been appointed genera]’ manager of the meat pool. A Hastings message says that Mr. John Fraser confirms his reported appointment as manager of the Meat Pool Board. He. was educated at Napier main school and Napier Boys’ 1 High School. He entered the employment of Nelson Bros., J Ad., in 1892, and graduated through the works and general offices at Tomoana, finally occupying the position of superintendent of the live stock department and general assistant to Mr. Wm. Nelson in the management of the works. On the retirement of Mr. Wm. Nelson from Tomoana Mr. Eraser resigned his position with Nelson Bros., and became assistant to Mr. William Richmond in his frozen meat business. He is well-known to the fanning community in Hawke’s Bay, and his many friends will be pleased to hear of his appointment.
