RIVAL FOOTBALL CODES. Danger of the Maori being won over to the Northern Union football code by organised propaganda by representatives of the League was mentioned by tte president (Mr. J. McLeod) at the annual meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union. The object of the movement, said Mr. McLeod, was evidently to get hold of the Maori. Just how the movement was to be met—and the Maoris were excellent, natural footballers—he was not sufficiently conversant with tte native mentality to know. He hoped Mr. Parata and Mr. Ngata would make an appeal to the Maoris to make them realise wtere they were being led. He could quite see that, if nothing were done by the union, it was quite possible in a couple of years, the Maoris, particularly in the outlying districts, might easily become associated with the Northern Union gaune. Hei would like to see the matter taken up.
